Position Overview
The Prisma Health Physician plays a crucial role in delivering high-quality medical care to patients within the Prisma Health-University Medical Group.Key Responsibilities
- Depending on the clinical environment and specialty, conducts surgical and/or non-surgical evaluations, diagnoses, and treatments for patients.
- Informs patients about health promotion, preventive measures, and early detection by providing educational materials and resources to patients and their families.
- Facilitates appropriate consultations, referrals, and follow-up care tailored to patients' requirements.
- Exhibits sound medical judgment in all aspects of healthcare.
- Orders diagnostic tests, studies, and ancillary services as necessary.
- Utilizes electronic health records, including computerized physician order entry (CPOE).
- Collaborates with the Medical Director, fellow physicians, or mid-level providers as needed regarding patient care, assessments, and educational matters.
- Engages in quality improvement initiatives, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs as mandated by clinical or hospital standards.
- Maintains the confidentiality of all patient information in accordance with federal regulations and guidelines.
- Upholds professionalism and is committed to clinical excellence, respecting diversity, and embodying the core values of Prisma Health.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position includes direct and/or indirect supervision of team members, which may encompass budget authority, hiring/termination authority, performance evaluations, and disciplinary responsibilities. The role is considered part of the management team at Prisma Health or its affiliates and will have direct reports.
Essential Qualifications
Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) from an accredited institution is required. Work experience cannot substitute for educational qualifications.
Completion of a residency program is mandatory. Depending on the location, setting, or specialty, several years of experience may be necessary.
Certifications and Licenses
Must be Board Certified or Board Eligible in the relevant specialty and possess a valid medical license to practice in South Carolina. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required.
Additional Skills and Experience
Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques. Comprehensive understanding of pharmacological agents utilized in patient treatment. Strong verbal and written communication skills, along with appropriate telephone etiquette, are essential.
