Job Summary

Gastroenterology Consultants of Savannah PC is seeking a highly skilled Medical Records Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for gathering and processing patient health information, ensuring the highest level of care for our patients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assemble patients' health information, verifying accuracy and completeness.
  • Verify patient insurance eligibility and benefits prior to appointments.
  • Create new patient accounts and update demographics in our Practice Management system.
  • Release medical records to patients and third-party requestors with proper authorization.
  • Obtain requested documentation with proper authorization.
  • Download transcription from providers, make amendments/corrections, and print reports.
  • Request charts from records facilities with proper authorization.
  • Convert paper records to electronic format via scanner.
  • Manage incoming/outgoing fax queue by accurately processing and disseminating documents.
  • Answer telephone calls, screen, and direct phone calls.
  • Assist patients with setting up and troubleshooting the practice patient portal.
  • Participate in annual training for HIPAA, OSHA, and other internal assigned topics.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 2 years of medical records experience in a medical practice setting.
  • Customer service experience preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of insurance benefits and eligibility.
  • Thorough knowledge of medical terminology.
  • Thorough knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical records compliance.
  • Proficiency in using computer and scanner.
  • Proficiency in using practice management and electronic medical records software.
  • Skilled in using third-party systems for retrieval of patient health information.
  • Proficiency in operating multi-line telephone system and call handling.
