Job Overview:

At Staff Icons, we are seeking a skilled Histotechnologist to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing tissue specimens by treating with chemicals, slicing with a microtome, and placing them on glass slides for microscopic examination and analysis by the pathologist.

This role requires a high level of attention to detail and the ability to work accurately and efficiently in a fast-paced environment.

The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of histology and be able to demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in evaluating old and new antibodies for immunohistochemistry staining.

Additionally, the successful candidate will be able to perform basic troubleshooting and adhere to policies and procedures recommended by the Chairman of the Department of Pathology.

We are looking for a motivated and detail-oriented individual who is passionate about delivering high-quality results and contributing to the success of our team.

Essential Functions:

  • Perform daily Q.C. functions in the histology laboratory with zero instances of non-compliance.
  • Assist residents in selecting proper stains in accordance with the type of embedding material used and the steps involved.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in the orientation and sectioning of fresh tissue specimens submitted for frozen section examination.
  • Perform basic troubleshooting on a case-by-case basis.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in tissue fixation and processing using policies and procedures recommended by the Chairman of the Department of Pathology.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and proficiency in histochemistry staining (enzymes or hematological stains).
  • Prepare frozen sections immediately upon receipt and produce a satisfactory tissue slide within 15 minutes, as observed by the resident and/or pathologist.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma
  • 1 year of full-time experience in Histopathology working under the direction of a Board-certified anatomic pathologist
  • ASCP Histo-tech certification is preferred
