Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced physician to serve as the Regional Medical Director for the Upstate Region of the South Carolina Department of Public Health (SC DPH). As a key member of the Region Leadership Team, the successful candidate will provide medical and scientific guidance on health initiatives and responses, while also serving as a liaison to the medical community in the Region on matters of public health importance.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively engage upstate communities as a public health leader and advocate, including serving on community taskforces, conducting datawalks, and working with area schools and universities.
  • Engage in public health response and disease outbreak activities, including participating in the Regional Coordination Center during outbreaks, serving on the regional healthcare coalition, and providing letters of non-contagion for funeral homes.
  • Provide supervision and management, including supervising the regional lab team and supporting their efforts, as well as supporting clinic activities of the health departments (STDs, immunizations, family planning, employee health, and public health emergencies).
Requirements
  • MD or DO from an accredited medical school, plus completion of an internship or one year of residency training.
  • Unrestricted Medical License in the State of South Carolina.
  • Valid South Carolina Driver's License.
  • Master of Public Health, Master of Health Informatics, Master of Health Management or Policy, or related certification from an accredited institution of higher learning.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous infectious disease, women's health, or immunization training.
  • At least 2 years of clinical experience.
  • Familiarity with electronic health records such as Cerner or EPIC.
  • Proficiency with MS Office/Teams.
