As a key member of our laboratory team, you will be responsible for performing routine and emergency tests on blood and other body fluids using automated and manual instrumentation.
Key Responsibilities- Test Performance: Perform routine and emergency tests on blood, serum, spinal fluid, and other body fluids using automated and manual equipment, depending on the procedure.
- Data Review: Review data prior to release to ensure accuracy and quality.
- Quality Control: Maintain quality control data on tests performed, resolve QC failures, and document actions as stipulated by laboratory procedures.
- Equipment Maintenance: Prepare reagents, take inventory, and advise supervisors as required.
- Record Keeping: Maintain all records of work performed and keep maintenance logs of equipment.
- Communication: Assist with answering the telephone and perform order entry in the LIS system, as necessary.
- Leadership: May have individual responsibility for the work of a laboratory unit and provide leadership for technicians.
- Training: Assist with the training of new employees.
- Sanitation: Maintain a clean work area in accordance with Infection Control guidelines.
- Education: Bachelor's degree in a physical science, medical technology preferred.
- Licensure: New York State Department of Education Clinical Laboratory Technologist License or a limited permit required. Applicants must obtain the provisional permit within the probationary period of three months for continued employment.
- Skills: Laboratory and hospital information system computers, variety of automated equipment, and other laboratory equipment required.
