Job Title: Child Life Specialist

Cleveland Clinic Health System is seeking a highly skilled Child Life Specialist to join our team. As a Child Life Specialist, you will play a vital role in providing emotional support and guidance to patients and families during their healthcare journey.

Job Summary:

The Child Life Specialist will work closely with our interdisciplinary team to assess the developmental, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients and families. You will provide developmentally appropriate education for medical procedures and diagnoses, non-pharmacological pain management, therapeutic play, and emotional and bereavement support.

Responsibilities:
  • Assess and address the developmental, psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of patients and families.
  • Provide education and support to patients and families regarding illness, treatment, and coping techniques.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to develop and implement individualized treatment plans.
  • Document treatment plans and outcomes in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in ongoing education and training to stay current with best practices in child life services.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in child life or a related field.
  • Child life internship or equivalent experience.
  • Professional certification (CCLS) through the Association of Child Life Professionals.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two years of experience in a hospital setting.
Work Environment:

The Child Life Specialist will work in a fast-paced healthcare environment, interacting with patients, families, and healthcare professionals. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively in a team setting.

Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and move patients as needed.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
Personal Protective Equipment:
  • Follows Standard Precautions using personal protective equipment as required for procedures.
