ROLE PURPOSE
The German Classroom Assistant collaborates with the lead educator to address the diverse needs of students in a play-oriented, developmentally suitable manner. This role involves creating learning opportunities that empower students to value and respect differing viewpoints while enhancing their collaboration and communication abilities.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Facilitate small group activities or engage with students throughout the learning space.
- Assist in classroom management, stepping in to lead when the teacher is unavailable.
- Oversee supervision duties during recess and lunch, and aid in preparing classroom resources.
- Work closely with lead teachers to ensure a cohesive learning experience for students.
- Effectively communicate expectations to students, assess their understanding, and adjust as necessary.
- Deliver lessons tailored to a wide range of learners, including those needing additional support.
- Foster partnerships with students, parents, and colleagues to promote a culture of inclusivity.
- Create a welcoming learning environment that values every voice.
IDEAL CANDIDATE PROFILE
The preferred candidate will possess experience with various teaching methodologies and demonstrate enthusiasm for educating a diverse student body in an inquiry-driven setting. A commitment to equitable and inclusive practices, along with a passion for engaging with young learners, is essential. Flexibility, a dedication to continuous learning, and a sense of humor are also important attributes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent.
- Fluency in German at a native level.
- Experience in a primary educational environment.
- Understanding of second language acquisition principles.
- Strong commitment to student success.
- Experience in inquiry-based or IB PYP educational settings is advantageous.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Enthusiasm for teaching in a multicultural and multilingual context, with a collaborative approach.
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and experiential learning methodologies.
- Experience with IB PYP is preferred, but candidates with other relevant experience are encouraged to apply.
