Overview of the Role
The Clinical Informatics Nursing Specialist serves as a pivotal resource, providing expertise, guidance, and leadership in the realm of clinical information and communication systems.

This role involves the assessment, recommendation, design, development, implementation, maintenance, support, optimization, and evaluation of clinical information and communication systems. Collaboration with a multidisciplinary team of healthcare professionals, information services, vendors, and other informatics experts is essential.

Key Responsibilities
1. **System Development Lifecycle Oversight**: Engage in the entire system development lifecycle (SDLC) for clinical information and communication systems, working closely with stakeholders on project planning, workflow assessment, systems analysis, design, development, testing, implementation, evaluation, and maintenance.
2. **Optimization Initiatives**: Identify and pursue opportunities to enhance clinical system functionality and workflows, ensuring that clinical information and communication systems contribute to improved outcomes.
3. **Educational Development**: Collaborate with various resources to create and deliver educational content regarding the use of clinical information and communication systems during implementation, user onboarding, and ongoing training.
4. **User Support**: Provide comprehensive support to end users during system implementation and throughout the system's lifecycle, including troubleshooting, optimization, and change management.
5. **Safety and Compliance Evaluation**: Assess factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, clinical quality, and regulatory compliance when developing and implementing clinical information systems.

Collaboration and Innovation
Participate in projects aimed at selecting enterprise clinical information and communication systems, including evaluating vendor presentations. Engage in the design, validation, implementation, and optimization of data sets, visualizations, and reports for stakeholders. Promote the integrity of nursing data collected from clinical information systems.

Change Management
Act as a change agent, anticipating the future needs of clinicians and innovating to support both clinicians and patients. Facilitate understanding of the importance and impact of change within the organization.

Knowledge Contribution
Contribute to the nursing informatics body of knowledge by sharing best practices through presentations, posters, and publications. Maintain and enhance knowledge and skills in nursing informatics through continuous education and advanced training.

Consultation and Collaboration
Provide consultation in nursing informatics by participating in relevant councils and committees. Work with clinical practice and education experts to ensure that clinical information systems align with evidence-based practices and organizational guidelines.

Qualifications
- **Education**: Associate's degree in Nursing required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing required; Master's degree in Nursing Informatics, Computer Science, or a related field required.
- **Experience**: 3-4 years of clinical nursing practice experience, including leadership roles; experience in developing and evaluating clinical applications and tools is essential.
- **Licenses and Certifications**: RN; State Licensure in Maryland required; ANCC Informatics Nursing Certification or specialty certification in informatics within 2 years required.
- **Skills**: Advanced knowledge in informatics; ability to manage complex projects; strong analytical skills; effective communication skills within a clinical/technical environment.
