Recreation Therapist

Job Summary

UPMC is seeking a Recreation Therapist to join our team of healthcare professionals. As a Recreation Therapist, you will play a vital role in providing therapeutic recreation services to patients with behavioral health needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement recreation therapy interventions to support patients with behavioral health needs.
  • Conduct individual and group therapy sessions, employing principles and foundations of recreation therapy.
  • Document patient assessments and treatment progress notes in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Facilitate recreation therapy specialty training and orientation activities as requested by supervisor.
  • Supervise recreation therapy students with oversight and support from senior staff and/or supervisor.
  • Attend department meetings, interdisciplinary meetings, and other activities as needed.
  • Adhere to hospital guidelines related to quality and safety.
  • Maintain professional certification and licensure as per continuing education requirements.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with department and patient units.
  • Perform assigned work in a timely and productive manner.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in Therapeutic Recreation or related field required.
  • CTRS Certification Required.
  • One year of clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience in Mental Health setting preferred.
  • Experience with creating and implementing community integration outings preferred.
Education and Certifications
  • CCM training required within 30 days of hire and annually thereafter.
  • CPR Certification.
  • Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist.
  • Comprehensive Crisis Management (CCMC).
  • Act 31 Child Abuse Reporting with renewal.
  • Act 33 with renewal.
  • Act 34 with renewal.
  • Act 73 FBI Clearance with renewal.
