About the Leadership Development Program

The Leadership Development Program at Principal Financial Group is a comprehensive, accelerated development path designed to build a future pipeline of plug-and-play leadership talent for the organization.

Program Overview

The program is a full-time, 4-6 rotation experience that allows participants to work on business objectives, receive individual coaching, actively practice leadership skills, collaborate with program peers, and create a customized rotation path as they propel their career at Principal Financial Group.

Key Program Components
  • Experiential Leadership Training: Participants will gain hands-on experience in leadership roles, developing their skills and expertise in a supportive and challenging environment.
  • Individualized Coaching: Participants will receive one-on-one coaching to help them develop their leadership skills and achieve their career goals.
  • Collaboration and Teamwork: Participants will work closely with program peers to achieve business objectives and develop their teamwork and collaboration skills.
  • Customized Rotation Path: Participants will create a customized rotation path that aligns with their career goals and interests.
Program Levels

The Leadership Development Program is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive leadership development experience. The program is divided into three levels:

  • Level I Associate: Participants will focus on learning the foundational aspects of Principal Financial Group, refining their core professional competencies, and identifying future opportunities to build targeted skillsets.
  • Level II Associate: Participants will be responsible for creating and developing a strategy for one of the program's high-level initiatives. They will drive results through team performance, delegate team responsibilities, and report back to the program.
  • Level III Associate: Participants will be formally responsible for leading, coaching, and mentoring a Level I LDP Associate. They will learn how to bring out the best in their direct report and drive optimal results through individuals.

  • Peer support and shared learning: Participants will have peer support and shared learning through the LDP cohort.
  • Support in attaining placement: The program provides support in attaining placement within Principal Financial Group and launching into your career with membership into our enterprise-wide alumni network, upon successful completion of the program.
