Sanitation Laborer

We are seeking a highly skilled Sanitation Laborer to join our team at The City of Marion. As a Sanitation Laborer, you will be responsible for performing manual labor of more than ordinary difficulty, which often involves the use of acquired skills. You will gather and carry containers from individual yards or locations along routes and dump refuse from containers onto trucks. You will also start hoisting devices that raise refuse bins attached to the rear of trucks and dump contents into enclosed truck bodies. Additionally, you will gather separated recycling materials and dump them into recycling bins on trucks. You will assist in unloading and cleaning garbage trucks at dump sites. This is routine work involving the use of skills acquired by experience or on-the-job instruction. You will work under the direction of a supervisor who issues orders and inspects work frequently. You will also receive on-the-job direction by Motor Equipment Operators. You will be required to follow all City of Marion Safety Rules.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Gather and carry containers from individual yards or locations along routes and dump refuse from containers onto trucks.
Start hoisting devices that raise refuse bins attached to the rear of trucks.
Dump contents into enclosed truck bodies.
Gather separated recycling materials and dump them into recycling bins on trucks.
Assist in unloading and cleaning garbage trucks at dump sites.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required, with vocational school training preferred, and two or more years of construction experience.
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills:

Work Environment:
This is a full-time, non-exempt position with a starting pay rate of $19.52/hour. The work environment is outdoors, with exposure to weather conditions. The work involves heavy manual labor, with the ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds.
Physical Demands:
The physical demands of this job include the ability to lift and move up to 100 pounds, with occasional lifting and moving of over 100 pounds. The ability to stand for long periods and walk on uneven terrain is also required.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
This job has no supervisory responsibilities but may be assisted by those in the Labor I classification.
