We are looking for a passionate, inventive, and self-assured professional to become part of the CPU Architecture and Performance Team; a group focused on pioneering research for the next generation of CPU architectures for iPhone, iPad, and Mac.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Address performance issues related to branch prediction, data/code prefetching, cache architecture, and other CPU domains.
  • Investigate the application of cutting-edge AI/ML methodologies to tackle these CPU performance issues.
  • Develop appropriate data analysis tools tailored for identifying performance bottlenecks, enabling you to sift through irrelevant data and concentrate on core issues.
  • Engage in ongoing research in various CPU domains and provide insights to the Apple CPU design team regarding features for future CPUs.
  • Share your analyses and findings with CPU architecture and design teams.
  • Offer strategic recommendations and influence the future roadmap for Apple CPUs utilized in iPhone, iPad, and Mac systems.
Essential Qualifications:

Proficient understanding of CPU architecture and micro-architecture principles.
Expertise in specific CPU focus areas (e.g., branch prediction, pre-fetching) is advantageous.
Familiarity with machine learning literature, model selection, tuning, and interpretability.

Capability to pinpoint performance bottlenecks in standard industry workloads, devise solutions, and implement those solutions in performance simulators.

Proficient in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python.
Educational Background: A B.S. degree with a minimum of 10 years of relevant industry experience. A PhD in Computer Science or Computer Engineering with a concentration on Computer Architecture or Machine Learning is preferred.

Compensation & Benefits:

At Apple, base salary is just one component of our comprehensive compensation package, determined within a specific range.

This structure allows for growth as you advance in your role.

The base salary range for this position is between $175,800 and $312,200, with your actual salary reflecting your skills, qualifications, experience, and location.

Apple employees also have the opportunity to become shareholders through participation in Apple's discretionary employee stock programs.

Eligible employees can receive discretionary restricted stock unit awards and may purchase Apple stock at a discount through the Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
