Position Overview:
The Research Scientist I will be integral to the scientific policy development team, reporting directly to the Manager of Laboratory Policy. This role involves supporting the laboratory policy development process through comprehensive research.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct thorough research and summarize evidence-based scientific literature.
- Draft responses to scientific inquiries from clients.
- Create new policies and revise existing laboratory policies as necessary.
- Assist in client policy reconciliation as directed by the Manager of Laboratory Policy.
- Format and update various documents to maintain accuracy and relevance.
- Manage multiple forms and electronic documents effectively.
- Track all policy changes using spreadsheets and other tracking tools.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure cohesive communication regarding policy updates.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the Manager of Laboratory Policy.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Nursing, Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Molecular Genetics, Molecular Biology, Medical Technology, or a related field.
- Experience in creating or revising medical policies and/or clinical practice guidelines within a managed care organization or similar healthcare environment.
- Understanding of process improvement principles.
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficient in computer applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.).
- Familiarity with standard editorial and style conventions (e.g., APA format).
- Strong administrative skills with the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects.
- Adaptability to changes and innovation.
- Ability to learn new technologies and interact effectively with clients.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Membership in the American Medical Writers Association or equivalent.
- Knowledge of clinical laboratory testing methods.
- Customer service experience.
- Previous experience in a health plan setting.
