Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Family Support Specialist to join our team at the U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI). As a key member of our Home Study and Post Release Services department, you will play a critical role in supporting the successful integration of refugees and immigrants into their new communities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conduct thorough home study assessments for potential placements of Unaccompanied Children (UC), including background interviews, home assessments, and case analysis.
  • Provide culturally sensitive and linguistically appropriate post-placement services and comprehensive case management for UC.
  • Manage a caseload of 25 Post Release Services (PRS) cases, or at least 3 home studies with 20 PRS cases.
  • Develop and implement individualized case plans with UC and sponsors, taking into account cultural, language, and special circumstances.
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of client interactions and case progress, adhering to USCRI and ORR policies and procedures.
  • Collaborate with local service providers and pro bono legal resources to ensure access to essential services for UC and sponsors.
  • Communicate effectively with key stakeholders, including supervisors, headquarters staff, and community partners.
  • Participate in regular training and professional development sessions to enhance skills and knowledge.
Requirements
  • Masters of Social Work or a related field, with at least two years of experience in child welfare, child placements, or social services.
  • Experience working with immigrant and refugee populations, with a strong understanding of their unique needs and challenges.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to write professional assessment reports and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Fluency in Spanish is required, with proficiency in additional languages a plus.
  • Valid driver's license, insurance, and a clean driving record, with the ability to travel up to 50% of the time.
  • Candidate must demonstrate a commitment to the human rights of refugees, immigrants, and displaced persons.
  • Candidate must pass a thorough background check, including a review of past convictions related to child and sexual abuse.
