Key Responsibilities:
1. Execute annual diagnostic physics evaluations and recertification for all imaging apparatus.
2. Provide round-the-clock emergency support for unexpected equipment issues.
3. Conduct yearly quality assurance assessments for all diagnostic x-ray and imaging systems, including MRI and mammography devices.
4. Perform physics assessments of diagnostic imaging equipment post-repair that impacts patient dosimetry or image fidelity.

5. Offer consulting expertise to assist the Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System Radiation Safety Office, which includes participation in committee discussions and reviewing the comprehensive technical quality assurance program.

6. Carry out occupational dose assessments for patients and staff as required.
7. Implement initial installation quality assurance evaluations for new diagnostic x-ray, imaging, and mammography systems.
8. Develop structural shielding design plans and conduct radiation protection assessments for newly constructed or refurbished rooms or replacement equipment.

9. Ensure adherence to all relevant Federal regulations and quality assurance testing recommendations from authoritative bodies such as the American College of Radiology and the American Association of Physicists in Medicine.

10. Report any deficiencies or non-compliance identified during inspections to the Radiation Safety Officer promptly and provide written documentation within 14 working days.

11. Monitor and assess fundamental performance characteristics of diagnostic x-ray equipment, including image artifacts, spatial resolution, contrast, noise, and more.

Qualifications:
1. Possess a master's degree in Medical Physics, Health Physics, or a related discipline.
2. Hold Board Certification from the American Board of Radiology or the American Board of Medical Physics in Diagnostic Medical Physics.
3. Licensed by the State of Texas as a Professional Medical Physicist.

4. Fulfill all criteria for a qualified diagnostic medical physicist as outlined by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, the American College of Radiology, the Mammography Quality Standards Act, the Food and Drug Administration, and The Joint Commission.

5. A minimum of ten years of experience delivering diagnostic medical physics services post-board certification.

6. Experience in evaluating at least six Magnetic Resonance Imaging systems under the supervision of a Qualified Medical Physicist or MRI Scientist.
