Position Overview

This role is designed for individuals who are dedicated to supporting students and fostering a collaborative environment. The primary focus is on delivering both in-person and digital reference services, enhancing information literacy, and managing library operations effectively.


Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive reference support, both in-person and online, ensuring a high level of customer service while utilizing various print and digital resources.
  • Supervise daily library functions, providing leadership and training to library staff, including assistants and student workers; address patron issues and enforce library policies; assist users with technology and resource access; and prepare operational reports.
  • Design and conduct both remote and face-to-face information literacy sessions, research methodologies, and library workshops for students; develop online instructional materials.
  • Assess, select, and recommend both print and digital library resources, collaborating with faculty on collection enhancement, particularly focusing on open educational resources (OER).
  • Engage in outreach initiatives, partnering with faculty and staff to promote library services and resources; utilize various platforms to market library offerings to the academic community.
  • Create and maintain research guides, instructional materials, and library documentation primarily in digital formats; contribute to the upkeep of library web content.
  • Perform cataloging and classification of library materials as necessary; address technical inquiries related to cataloging and MARC record adjustments.
  • Stay informed about advancements in library science and technology; actively participate in professional organizations; propose and implement innovative practices in alignment with library goals.
  • Undertake additional responsibilities as required by the position.
Qualifications

Education: Master’s Degree in Library Science.
Experience: Minimum of two years in a related field.
Special Conditions: May involve travel to various locations; availability for evening and weekend shifts may be necessary.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Understanding of library science principles, classification systems, and collection development strategies.
  • Proficient in locating references in both physical and digital formats.
  • Familiarity with current library technologies and their application in enhancing library services.
  • Awareness of information literacy standards and user-centered service approaches.
  • Ability to effectively teach information literacy skills and assist patrons in research.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Competence in using various software applications, including library management systems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Capacity to adapt to rapid changes and work independently or collaboratively.
Physical Requirements

This position primarily involves sedentary work, with occasional requirements to lift up to 10 pounds. Physical abilities necessary include visual acuity, speaking, and the ability to navigate a library environment.

Interpersonal Skills

This role necessitates strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of individuals, providing guidance and support while maintaining confidentiality.

Working Environment
