Position Overview

This role is designed for individuals who are dedicated to supporting student success through effective information management and resource accessibility. The position emphasizes both in-person and digital reference services, fostering a collaborative environment that enhances information literacy and library skills among students. The individual will also play a key role in the development of library collections and the management of daily library functions.


Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver comprehensive in-person and virtual reference support, prioritizing customer service for patrons utilizing both traditional and digital resources.
  • Manage the daily operations of the library, providing leadership, training, and support to library staff, including assistants and student workers; address patron issues and enforce library policies as necessary.
  • Design and conduct both remote and face-to-face information literacy sessions, research methodologies, and other educational workshops for students; develop online instructional materials.
  • Assess, select, and recommend both print and digital library resources, collaborating with faculty to enhance collection development, particularly focusing on open educational resources.
  • Engage in outreach initiatives by collaborating with faculty and staff to promote library services and resources; utilize various platforms to market library offerings to the academic community.
  • Create and maintain research guides, instructional materials, and library documentation primarily in digital formats; contribute to the upkeep of library web content.
  • Perform cataloging and classification of library materials as required; address technical inquiries related to cataloging and MARC record adjustments.
  • Stay informed about advancements in library science and technology; actively participate in professional organizations; propose and implement innovative practices in alignment with the library's mission.
  • Execute additional duties as assigned that align with the role's responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education: A Master's Degree in Library Science is required.

Experience: A minimum of two years of relevant experience is necessary.

Special Conditions: The role may require travel to various locations and may involve evening and weekend responsibilities.

  • Understanding of library science principles, classification systems, and collection development strategies.
  • Proficiency in locating references in both print and digital formats.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging library technologies and their application in enhancing library services.
  • Awareness of information literacy standards and user-centered service approaches.
  • Ability to effectively teach information literacy skills and assist patrons in research.
  • Strong customer service skills and effective communication abilities, both written and verbal.
  • Competence in using various software applications, including library management systems.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Capacity to adapt to rapid changes and work both independently and collaboratively.

Physical Requirements

This position primarily involves sedentary work, with occasional requirements to lift up to 10 pounds. The role may involve various physical activities such as reaching, speaking, and visual observation.

This position requires strong interpersonal skills to effectively engage with a diverse range of individuals, providing guidance and support while maintaining confidentiality.
