Key Responsibilities and Technical Proficiencies
- Operate, troubleshoot, and perform repairs, maintenance, and services essential for the uninterrupted functioning of all building systems. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Electrical systems (Uninterruptible Power Supply, Automatic Transfer Switch, Static Transfer Switch, Power Distribution Units), generators, generator controls, fuel systems, switchgear, lighting, and energy efficiency measures.
- Mechanical systems (Chillers, Pumps, Cooling Towers, Water Treatment, Air Handling Units, and plumbing systems).
- Fire and life safety systems, including suppression systems (both dry and wet pipe), gaseous systems, and early warning fire detection technologies.
- Environmental control systems such as Building Management Systems (BMS), Direct Digital Control (DDC), and pneumatic controls.
- Construction-related tasks (painting, door installations, locks, and wall/ceiling repairs).
- Comprehensive knowledge of mission-critical systems, including HVAC, standby emergency power, uninterruptible power supplies, and computer room air conditioning/handling, along with an understanding of the interdependencies of these systems to ensure 100% uptime.
- Familiarity with Data Center Infrastructure Management (DCIM) platforms.
- Strong grasp of mission-critical system operations, maintenance, engineering, and design principles, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to evaluate the condition of the building and its infrastructure systems, diagnose and resolve alarms, and address technical challenges with a variety of solutions in diverse situations. This role requires advanced analytical and quantitative skills.
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule, available 24/7, as needed by the business (shift adjustments may occur).
Additional Responsibilities
- Supervise electrical and mechanical systems, including but not limited to: Universal Power Supply (UPS) systems, generators, chillers, electrical distribution, HVAC systems, and Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS).
- Conduct daily inspections of all Mechanical & Engineering (M&E) systems and technical equipment, ensuring proper servicing and maintenance.
- Complete assigned tasks in accordance with established protocols and procedures, ensuring adherence to safety processes and personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements. Additionally, ensure compliance with all regulatory standards and quality benchmarks.
- Facilitate vendor site visits as necessary, ensuring that site standards are upheld.
- Assist in developing and refining work processes, Job Hazard Analysis reports, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for critical tasks, including risk assessments. Ensure that all documentation and logbooks are current.
Qualifications
- High School diploma or GED equivalent, along with technical training or a relevant degree.
- Preferred qualifications include: Operating Engineer or other applicable licenses and Universal CFC licenses.
- Certified Mission Critical Operator (CMCO) Certification.
- A minimum of 3 years of related experience in a technical, mission-critical operational environment.
