Advanced Practice Nurse

Job Summary
This position works within the scope of practice for an Advanced Practice Nurse in the category of Adult or Family/All Ages. The successful candidate will support Nurse Practitioners working within Opioid Treatment Hubs provincially by providing coverage and relief, as well as providing additional supports that may be needed. This is an advanced practice role providing professional, analytical, and autonomous comprehensive range of health services to clients and patients, including but not limited to:
- Prescribing opioid agonist therapies
- Health assessments and diagnosis of diseases, disorders, injuries, and conditions
- Treating and managing acute and chronic illnesses
- Identifying health risks and needs within a holistic model
This position involves the planning and provision of both generalized and advanced nursing services. The Advanced Practice Nurse will provide comprehensive care to clients using principles of harm reduction and primary health care within a health promotion, population health, and self-help framework. This work involves treating those requiring medical withdrawal management involving withdrawal protocols, as well as the initiation of suboxone and/or methadone on both an inpatient and outpatient basis.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with an interdisciplinary healthcare team, including community/hospital physicians
- Provide comprehensive primary health care services
- Support Nurse Practitioners working within Opioid Treatment Hubs provincially
- Provide coverage and relief as needed
- Provide additional supports that may be needed
Requirements
- Completion of an approved/recognized Nurse Practitioner program
- Current registration with the College of Registered Nurses of NL (CRNNL) and Licensed (or eligible for licensure) as a Nurse Practitioner Adult or Family/All Ages
- A minimum of five years clinical experience in the last seven in mental health and/or addictions
- Current BCLS Certification
- Possess or granted the authority to prescribe suboxone and methadone by CRNNL, or eligible to apply for authorization to prescribe suboxone/methadone by CRNNL
- Possessed strong abilities in the areas of collaboration, clinical reasoning, professional development, interpersonal effectiveness, conflict management, and teamwork
- Demonstrated progressive clinical leadership skills
- Possessed strong communication, problem-solving, decision-making, and teaching skills
- Demonstrated ability to function autonomously in an advanced practice role
- Support and participate in research to improve practice and client outcomes
- Demonstrated skills in computer and database management skills; experience with provision of care using virtual solutions is considered an asset
