GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF POSITION
This position is classified as safety sensitive and involves the enforcement of municipal animal regulations and state laws. Responsibilities include investigating cases of animal cruelty, managing animal bites or attacks, and caring for stray and abandoned animals. The role also encompasses the control of nuisance wildlife and educating the public on responsible animal ownership.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure animals receive adequate food, water, and sanitation in kennels on a daily basis.
- Respond to and collect abandoned or stray animals regularly.
- Administer medical care to animals, including vaccinations, as necessary.
- Address complaints regarding dangerous or aggressive dogs on a daily basis.
- Perform clerical duties, including answering calls and logging information consistently.
- Issue warnings and citations as required.
- Investigate incidents involving dog or cat bites, animal cruelty, or hoarding.
- Trap and remove nuisance wildlife as needed.
- As a certified euthanist, perform euthanasia on animals and maintain accurate records.
- Respond to emergency calls outside of regular hours when necessary.
- Maintain quarantined animals as directed by health department officials.
- Provide testimony in court regarding animal-related cases when required.
- Deliver first responder care to injured animals in the field as needed.
- Address livestock-related issues as they arise.
- Operate a city vehicle to fulfill essential job functions.
- Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Must possess mental alertness and adaptability to both office and fieldwork. A minimum of a high school diploma or GED is required, with a focus on office or shop skills, plus 12 to 18 months of relevant experience or training, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Ability to effectively communicate information and respond to inquiries in person and in small group settings with the public and other employees.
