Position Summary: The RN Clinical Nurse plays a vital role within a collaborative team of licensed and unlicensed caregivers dedicated to delivering personalized, high-quality, and safe patient care. Operating within a clinical setting led by Nurse Supervisors and Office Managers, this role is supported by the WellStar Clinical Champion Forum. The practice framework is guided by the WellStar Professional Practice Model, 5-Star Nursing, and evidence-based practices and research. RN competencies are aligned with these models and reinforced by the WellStar Core Competencies. It is essential that all RN Clinical Nurses maintain licensure, possess comprehensive knowledge, and adhere to the standards of nursing practice as established by the Georgia Professional Nurse Practice Act, while implementing the Scope of Practice and Code of Ethics as defined by the American Nurses Association.
Core Responsibilities:
1. Exemplary Practice and Outcomes: Execute the Nursing Process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) in clinical care delivery utilizing evidence-based practices. Employ analytical and critical thinking skills to ensure individualized care and coordinate efforts through effective partnerships, recognizing that compassionate care is essential for optimal patient outcomes.
2. Patient-Centered Care: Deliver relationship-based care that aligns with specific population characteristics (age, gender, disease, etc.), adapting service delivery to reflect an understanding of cultural diversity. Engage with patients and their significant others through appropriate communication methods, ensuring their goals are central to the care plan.
3. Teamwork and Collaboration: Oversee the safe delivery and documentation of quality patient care, promoting a professional care delivery model. This includes diverse interdisciplinary communication methods, timely documentation, and fostering a respectful, inclusive clinical environment. Demonstrate collaboration by practicing in a fiscally responsible manner and supporting the recruitment and retention of healthcare team members.
4. Professional Development: Complete all initial and ongoing competency assessments, mandatory education, and population-specific training. Act as a preceptor and mentor for fellow nurses and students, ensuring a qualified workforce and promoting a healthy work environment.
5. Evidence-Based Practice: Advocate for evidence-based practices, nursing research, and performance improvement initiatives. Participate in value analysis for patient care products and uphold organizational policies and standards, ensuring compliance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation requirements.
6. Resource Management: Plan proactively for patient care across the continuum while delivering direct care. Collaborate in developing protocols and procedures to achieve best practice outcomes, such as reducing readmission rates and adverse events, while ensuring efficient use of resources.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Education: Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Georgia; BLS certification required prior to hire
- Experience: Direct patient care experience preferred; additional specialty experience may be required
- Skills: Proficient in English; basic computer skills; strong interpersonal and customer service skills; ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and respond effectively to emergencies; excellent time management and critical thinking abilities.
