Laser Operator

The CNC Laser Operator will be a key member of the GMP Friction Products team, working at the Gilchrist Road facility. This position is responsible for assisting with the day-to-day activities of the laser operations, including setup, maintenance, and operation of the CNC laser machine.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Basic setup of the machine, including loading programs, selecting the correct cutting head, nozzle, and centering the beam.
  • Maintaining efficient run rates and material utilization.
  • Unloading and deburring of parts using pneumatic die grinders and electric angle grinders.
  • Operating a forklift to move materials and load/unload trucks as needed.
  • Filing out travelers with job-specific information.
  • General upkeep of the shop and machine cleaning.
  • Assisting with shipping and receiving.
  • Identifying different types and thickness of material.
  • Knowledge of gases used, replacement parts, and pressure settings.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Experience with micrometers and calipers.
  • CAD and Trutops software experience helpful.
  • Minimum of one year in all areas of operation of the CNC laser.
  • Experience in a precision machining environment helpful.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, drawings.
  • Forklift training.
  • Carrying out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format.
