The Communications Network Engineering and Analysis Department, part of the MITRE Labs Infrastructure and Networking Innovation Center, provides premier communications network engineering services for our customers at all classification levels. Our engineers have expertise in research, design, analysis, modeling, and simulation, lab experimentation, field testing, and implementation of networks across a diverse set of networked communication environments.

We're seeking a skilled Communications Specialist to join our team and support our San Diego, California work program. As a key member of our team, you'll be responsible for leading and performing communications network engineering research and analysis tasks, including building lab-based testbeds, modeling network performance, and working with cyber and infrastructure automation technologies.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and analysis to identify solutions for complex network problems
  • Design and implement network architectures and protocols
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement network solutions
  • Stay up-to-date with emerging technologies and assess their applicability to sponsor missions

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, such as computer science, engineering, or a related field
  • 10+ years of experience in network engineering, communications, or a related field
  • Strong understanding of networking protocols and principles, including TCP/IP and wireless networking
  • Proficiency in one or more scripting or programming languages, such as C, C++, Java, or Python
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance (U.S. Citizenship required)

Preferred Qualifications:

  • MS or PhD in a relevant field
  • Experience with network modeling and simulation tools, such as EMANE, OPNET/Riverbed, or Exata
  • Knowledge of DoD smart routing technologies, such as DyNAMO or CaaS
  • Foundational knowledge of network and cyber security, including Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA)
