The Speech Language Pathologist is responsible for diagnosing and addressing communication and swallowing disorders that may arise from various medical conditions. This role involves assessing patients' speech and language capabilities in relation to their medical, social, and psychological backgrounds. The Speech Language Pathologist will develop and implement rehabilitation strategies aimed at enhancing communication and swallowing abilities. This position requires a solid understanding of established practices within the field of speech-language pathology, along with the ability to apply knowledge and experience to achieve treatment objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver direct patient care under the guidance of a physician, adhering to a pre-defined treatment plan.
- Analyze results from speech, language, and hearing assessments, alongside medical data, to formulate effective treatment strategies for various disorders.
- Provide evaluation and treatment for patients with conditions such as stroke, progressive neurological diseases, and cancers affecting the head and neck.
- Create individualized treatment plans targeting specific deficits including but not limited to aphasia, dysarthria, and dysphagia.
- Monitor patient progress and modify treatment approaches as necessary.
- Educate patients on techniques to enhance speech and swallowing capabilities.
- Maintain accurate documentation of assessments, treatment goals, and progress in compliance with organizational policies and regulations.
- Facilitate continuity of care post-discharge by instructing patients and caregivers on safe dietary practices and home exercise routines.
- Engage in collaborative discharge planning with healthcare team members.
- Adhere to established safety and quality standards within the healthcare environment.
- Commit to ongoing professional development through workshops and participation in relevant professional organizations.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal and state regulations.

Qualifications
Master's degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited institution.
Continuing education in specialized areas of interest is encouraged.
Must hold a valid license as a Speech Language Pathologist.
Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) is required.
Experience Requirements
Minimum of one year of clinical experience in an acute or subacute care setting, specifically in the evaluation and treatment of swallowing disorders.
Work Schedule
Flexibility to work during holidays and weekends as required.
Physical Demands
Ability to stand, walk, and bend for extended periods.
Good manual dexterity and sensory acuity are essential.
Work Environment
May involve occasional exposure to cleaning agents and infectious diseases.
