Job Title: Teacher of the Visually Impaired

The Children's Home of Pittsburgh & Lemieux Family Center is seeking a skilled Teacher of the Visually Impaired to join our team. As a key member of our Early Intervention program, you will provide vision services to patients birth to age 21, implementing services according to each child's Individualized Family Service Plan (IFSP) and Individualized Education Program (IEP).

Responsibilities:
  • Evaluate patients' functional vision using various methods and assessments.
  • Interpret clinical information and demonstrate an understanding of medical and ocular conditions.
  • Provide vision services, including evaluation, treatment planning, implementation, consultation, documentation, follow-up, and discharge planning.
  • Educate patients, family members, or caregivers on activities and adaptations for home and community settings.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, best practices, evidence-based practice, and HIPAA guidelines.
  • Ensure clear communication between the therapist and patient/family or other members of the school and medical team.
  • Document patient activities and progress in a timely manner.
  • Participate in professional growth through continuing education and other sources.
  • Be flexible to schedule clients on evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Attend and participate in mandatory staff meetings.
Requirements:
  • Graduate of an accredited Teacher of the Visually Impaired program with 3-5 years of experience with the pediatric population.
  • Maintain current certification in the State of Pennsylvania.
  • Experience with Cortical Visual Impairment (CVI) is a plus.
  • Capacity to develop proficiency in various treatment protocols.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to effectively work with staff and the medical team.
  • Working knowledge of computers to complete documentation electronically.
Salary:

$50.00 per hour
