The Pre-Op/PACU Nurse will provide high-quality care to surgical patients through monitoring, assessment, intervention, and medication administration in the Ambulatory Surgery Center at Mississippi Sports Medicine.
Key Responsibilities:- Assess and prepare patients prior to surgery, ensuring their readiness for the procedure.
- Provide safe and individualized nursing care for patients in the immediate postoperative/post-anesthesia period.
- Verify operative and informed consents are signed and accurate.
- Take and record vital signs to ensure patients are ready for the surgical procedure.
- Initiate IVs and educate patients about the procedures.
- Document all findings in the patient's chart.
- Communicate effectively with patients, visitors, physicians, and coworkers.
- Monitor patients for condition changes and report any changes to physicians.
- Maintain professional competence by participating in continuing education and other learning experiences.
- Continuously assess post-surgical patients to determine readiness for discharge.
- Educate patients and family members on the procedure and follow-up care.
- Active Registered Nursing License, licensed to work in MS.
- General clinical competency in acute patient care.
- Aptitude for maintaining pace of abbreviated patient encounters.
- Ability to gather pertinent medical history and provide concise instruction for pre-operative care.
- Nursing experience in a perioperative setting preferred.
- Documentation of current BLS certification (ACLS and PALS preferred).
