Job Description and Duties

As an employee of the Department of Developmental Services - Porterville Developmental Center, a Psychiatric Technician Trainee assists in providing direct care and treatment to clients. The role requires working under the direction of a Unit Supervisor or SRPT/NPIC, interacting with clients, personnel, and the general public. The position involves potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment.

Typical Working Conditions:

  • Ongoing interaction with clients, personnel, and the general public.
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment.

Physical Demands:

  • Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance, and sensory abilities to perform the duties contained in the duty statement.

Special Requirements:

  • Selected candidates are subject to special requirements, including a medical evaluation.

Required Documents:

  • Completed standard state application (STD. 678).
  • Copy of high school diploma/transcripts, GED, or college transcripts.
  • Proof of enrollment in a Psychiatric Technician training program accredited by the California Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners.

This position is required to complete a medical evaluation and is not eligible for telework. Interested individuals must take the Psychiatric Technician Trainee (Safety) examination to obtain list eligibility.
