Summary
The Benton County Civil Service Commission is currently seeking applications to create an eligibility list for current and future roles within the Benton County Sheriff's Office.
We have an immediate opening for a position that requires candidates to be U.S. citizens, at least 21 years old, possess a valid Washington state driver's license, and have a high school diploma or equivalent. Candidates must also have no felony convictions.
This role demands a professional appearance, strong interpersonal skills to engage with the public and colleagues, and the ability to operate office equipment such as computers, copy machines, and multi-line telephone systems with proficiency.

Successful applicants will be notified about testing dates and locations. A minimum score of 70% on a computer skills assessment is required to be placed on the certified eligibility list, which will be utilized for filling current and future vacancies for a period of 12 months, extendable to 24 months.
Before employment, selected candidates must undergo a thorough criminal history background check and a polygraph examination.
Responsibilities
Key duties include greeting and assisting the public, staff, and other agencies via phone or in person, providing detailed information as authorized from established manuals and procedures. Candidates will also enter, update, and delete data in various computerized records systems to maintain accurate case files and logs related to police information.
Additionally, the role involves conducting background checks, compiling reports from diverse sources, and performing routine mathematical calculations as necessary. Candidates will be responsible for typing and distributing various documents, ensuring proper formatting and accuracy.
Other responsibilities include issuing permits, processing applications, and managing fees for services rendered by the office. The role also entails maintaining records, providing liaison services between departments and other agencies, and assisting with coordination of activities as needed.
Qualifications
To qualify for the position of Junior Records Management Associate, candidates must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be a U.S. citizen and proficient in reading and writing English.
- At least 21 years of age with a valid Washington state driver's license.
- Must pass civil service examinations and thorough background checks.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Strong data entry skills, attention to detail, and ability to work with the public.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
Successful candidates will possess knowledge of office practices and procedures, as well as the functions and regulations relevant to law enforcement. Proficiency in basic math, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate standard office equipment and software are essential.
