Position Overview
The County of Yolo is seeking to fill a full-time position for a Recycling and Waste Management Coordinator within the Department of Community Services - Integrated Waste Management Division.
Role Summary
Under general supervision, this role is responsible for developing and coordinating initiatives related to solid waste reduction, hazardous waste collection, and recycling programs. The coordinator will engage in various educational activities to enhance public awareness and participation in waste reduction and recycling efforts. This position serves as a liaison among governmental agencies and oversees the County's solid waste management activities, focusing on waste reduction, recycling, and hazardous waste programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Facilitates the execution of the County's Source Reduction and Recycling Elements and Integrated Waste Management Plans;
- Coordinates programs aimed at solid waste reduction, recycling, and household hazardous waste;
- Develops community outreach initiatives to promote awareness and participation in program services;
- Prepares proposals and agreements for consultant services related to recycling and hazardous waste;
- Engages with the community to enhance waste reduction and recycling practices;
- Measures and evaluates the effectiveness of existing programs and recommends new initiatives;
- Ensures compliance with County recycling obligations and conducts data analysis to report findings;
- Collaborates with the Division head to establish goals for reduction and recycling programs;
- Conducts waste audits and provides recommendations for waste management improvements;
- Prepares grant applications and manages related documentation and budgets;
- Promotes positive working relationships with colleagues and the public, upholding the values of Yolo County.
Qualifications
Education: A bachelor's degree in physical sciences, business administration, environmental management, or a related field is required. A graduate degree may substitute for one year of required experience.
Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in solid waste reduction, hazardous waste management, recycling programs, or a related environmental management field is required. Additional relevant experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis.
Special Requirements: Candidates must complete a certified 40-hour Health and Safety training course within six months of hire. A valid California driver's license is also required for this position.
