Job Overview

The Rural Housing Advocacy Specialist will play a crucial role in organizing residents in rural regions of California, advancing housing policy and legislative initiatives across the state. This position requires strong community organizing skills, a deep understanding of housing issues, and a commitment to advocating for equitable and affordable housing solutions.

About the Role

This is a remote position with an emphasis on organizing residents in the San Joaquin Valley for the Residents United Network (RUN). RUN is a resident-led organization that aims to build power among affordable housing residents in coalition with regional affordable housing partners and nonprofit developers.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Work with rural communities and nonprofit developers to identify opportunities to organize residents impacted by the lack of affordable housing in California who can be connected to state policy campaigns.
  2. Conduct outreach and engagement activities to educate and empower community members on housing issues, ensuring that their voices are heard in the policymaking process.
  3. Assist with campaigns that advocate for housing policies that address the needs of marginalized communities, including coordinating local and statewide actions and events organized by RUN and other regional partners.
Requirements
  • A minimum of a bachelor's degree in urban planning, public policy, community organizing, or a related field.
  • Ideally, at least 2 years of experience working in community organizing, advocacy, or campaign management, preferably with a focus on housing or related social justice issues.
  • Experience working in diverse communities with strong cultural competency skills.
  • Strong understanding of housing policy and the ability to analyze legislation and policy proposals.
Benefits
