Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Violence Prevention Specialist to join our team. As a key member of our Youth Violence Prevention team, you will be responsible for delivering violence prevention services to students in Hamilton County public schools. This is a full-time position that requires a strong commitment to social justice and a passion for working with diverse populations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide violence prevention services, including domestic violence, stalking, dating violence, and sexual violence prevention education programming to students in Hamilton County public schools
- Teach Safe Dates, Teens Against Bullying, and Coaching Boys Into Men curricula in Hamilton County public schools
- Conduct outreach to high schools in Hamilton County to implement dating violence and sexual violence prevention education to students
- Train formal project partners, parents, and community members on dating violence, domestic violence, stalking, and sexual violence
- Build rapport and maintain relationships with local school personnel
- Complete monthly reports to inform the Senior Director of the progress of classroom instruction
- Provide outreach and oversight of peer-led bullying prevention initiatives in Hamilton County Schools
- Participate in Regional and State meetings to stay in compliance with program funders and maintain knowledge surrounding best practice methods regarding violence prevention
- Attend restorative practices and other training sessions as needed
- Work on other violence prevention initiatives as assigned
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Senior Director
Clerical/General Administrative:
- Respond to routine correspondence
- Make copies, print documents, and perform other administrative tasks
- File paperwork and maintain accurate records
Key Relationships:
- Interact with Senior Director, other YWCA staff, volunteers, students, other social services provider agencies, and community members
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in a human service or related field or equivalent combination of education and experience
- Experience in teaching youth in a school setting, strong communication, organizational, and project planning skills
- Sensitivity to individuals from diverse economic, cultural, and educational backgrounds
- Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experience, Trauma-Informed Care, and demonstrated experience in facilitating therapeutic group services preferred
- Reliable transportation and favorable driving record
Skills/Specialized Knowledge/Abilities:
- Political and social sensitivity
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to provide training and deliver presentations
- Knowledge of Adverse Childhood Experience and Trauma-Informed Care
- Strong organizational and project planning skills
- Ability to work with individuals across the spectrum of gender, race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, sexual orientation, and socioeconomic background
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and code of ethics per YWCA policies and practices
- Understands and values social justice, including racial and gender equity as an organizational operating mission and is committed to continued learning on issues related to race, gender, equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Ability to reflect the YWCA mission to empower women and eliminate racism in work performance
Working Conditions:
- Full-time position
- Work environment: office setting with occasional travel to schools and community events
- Physical and mental demands: frequent sitting, ability to work at a computer terminal for extended periods, digital dexterity, and hand/eye coordination in operation of office equipment, light lifting and carrying of supplies, files, etc.
