Key Responsibilities- Measure and record vital signs, growth parameters, medical histories, and signs and symptoms into the electronic health record
- Communicate patient-related information to licensed healthcare providers
- Perform electrocardiograms, pulmonary function tests, and other diagnostic testing within the Medical Assisting scope
- Collect laboratory specimens, including blood specimens
- Prepare and administer medication at the direction of a licensed healthcare provider, adhering to all regulations, guidelines, and policies
- Perform routine screening tests and assist providers with exams and procedures
- Remove sutures, change dressings, apply bandages, and perform other first aid procedures
- Prepare and instruct patients about examinations, diagnostic tests, medications, special diets, and health maintenance
- Dispose of bio-hazardous materials in accordance with OSHA safety standards and hospital policies
- Follow PCH and OSHA safety rules and procedures at all times
- Uphold HIPAA regulations
- Process and communicate prescription refills to pharmacies as authorized by licensed healthcare providers, in accordance with regulations, policies, and approved departmental protocols
- Obtain prior authorizations for medication and DME
- Screen telephone calls and take accurate clinical messages within the Medical Assisting scope, as well as in accordance with PCH policies
- Return patient calls with provider-directed instructions
- Assist patients and providers in completing documentation and any other paperwork in which a provider is required to disclose and/or attest to
- Clean and restock exam rooms
- In some clinics, may serve as a witness to cycle counting and wasting of controlled substances
- Follow appropriate legal and ethical professional conduct
- Current and continuous certification from the American Association of Medical Assistants (CMA) or American Medical Technologists (RMA) in the field of Medical Assisting, or the ability to acquire within 90 days of hire
- Ability to remain up-to-date with certifications, company-mandated training, and professional development
