Job Description

The Medical Assistant II is a key member of our clinical team, responsible for overseeing and managing all clinical aspects of our office practices. This role performs a variety of clinical functions, including taking history and vital signs, documenting results, coordinating lab and prescription orders, and assisting with minor office procedures.

This position ensures optimal patient flow within the clinical areas and communicates effectively with physicians, clinical, administrative staff, and management. A Monday-to-Friday schedule is required for this position.

No nights or weekends

Responsibilities
  • Prepares exam rooms
  • Assists clinical personnel during patient visits
  • Performs basic medical procedures, including injections and blood draws
  • Obtains and documents vital signs and lab work
  • Completes timely and accurate documentation of patient visits
  • Ensures all outside records are incorporated into the chart or EHR
  • Completes requests for medical records
  • Returns/triages telephone calls, where applicable
  • Ensures referrals and outside records have been obtained prior to service
  • Communicates with other Medical Assistants to ensure efficient patient flow through the office and proper documentation of visits
  • Adheres to urgent and add-on patient visit guidelines and communicates such visits to clinical staff per office protocols
  • Prepares daily charts and maintains medical files and electronic medical records
  • Scans outside reports, results, and labs into the appropriate sections of the electronic medical record
  • Assists physician(s) with daily needs
  • Interfaces with referring offices in obtaining referrals when needed
  • Educates patient on procedures related to insurance requirements/self-pay patient contract
  • Sends appropriate documentation to specialists/facilities
  • Documents action taken (services rendered, cancelled, etc.) in patient's medical record
  • Completes appropriate paperwork as needed
  • Rooms patients and records vitals
  • Assists clinical personnel during patient visit
  • Administer injections and blood draws as needed
  • Reviews clinical reports
  • Ensures office compliance with OSHA/CLIA/HIPAA guidelines
  • Maintains inventory for medical supplies
  • Reviews and disposes of any services (i.e., post-op, MFM, follow-up on consults, etc.) triages in office emergencies
  • Educates patients in diet, preparation for procedures, administration of medicine, risks, and precautions
Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

Education/Experience:

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required

2 or more years of Medical Assistant experience required

Experience working in an OB/GYN or MFM office is preferred

Registered Medical Assistant or Certified Medical Assistant certification or license is preferred

Skills:

Good organizational skills

Communicate and work well in a team environment

Follow up in a timely manner on open items

Able to effectively prioritize work daily

Bilingual (English/Spanish) skills are preferred
