Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Developer I to join our team at Western & Southern Life. As a key member of our software development team, you will be responsible for leading cross-functional teams in executing Agile Scrum and Kanban frameworks, providing servant leadership, and facilitating planning, team learning, and adaptation of processes to ensure quality of team/solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead multiple Agile teams on high-complexity initiatives, consisting of internal, external, and business and technical resources, in the delivery of IT and business products and solutions.
  • Advocate and teach Agile methodology and processes, ensuring the team follows the framework, fostering an environment of continuous improvement/learning, and driving substantial improvement at the team and portfolio levels.
  • Guide team members in achieving maturity in Agile principles, increasing velocity as teams mature, and training new and junior Scrum Masters.
  • Provide mentorship to other Scrum Masters and Agile Teams in the organization, leading communities of practice for enrichment.
  • Organize and facilitate ceremonies and agile practices, such as sprint planning, daily standup, backlog refinement/grooming, sprint review, and sprint retrospective, alongside the product owner.
  • Support the Product Owner and Team through maintaining data in the appropriate Agile toolset, providing transparency, and creating visibility to 'what' and 'how' teams are performing through valuable team metrics.
  • Work with teams to drive the definition and refinement of the program and team backlogs, ensuring scope, goals, milestones, budget, risk, status, change requests, and critical issues are effectively communicated.
  • Identify and remove technical and/or organizational challenges and impediments to optimize delivery, resolving complex systemic impediments, and managing risks and issues to ensure they do not recur.
Requirements
  • Proven strong understanding of multiple Agile frameworks.
  • Proven experience providing servant leadership to a team, influencing and negotiating, and working with diverse teams.
  • Demonstrated interpersonal skills, ability to work with diverse teams, and proven situational awareness of when to listen and when to be assertive.
  • Proven experience coaching team(s) in Agile practices, stressing individuals and interactions over processes and tools, and leading continuous improvement to help team clarify goals and actions to achieve them.
  • Proven experience resolving conflict and shielding team from outside distractions and interferences.
  • Proven strong analytical skills, including demonstrated experience identifying, defining, and quantifying problems, collecting or interpreting data, establishing facts, and providing effective solutions.
  • Cite examples of good decision-making skills when dealing with multiple alternatives.
  • Proven experience in business analysis, product/project management, or product development.
  • Demonstrated verbal and written communication and presentation skills, ability to document procedures and activities in a manner that is understandable to others, and comfortable presenting to leadership, business partners, and engineering alike.
  • Proven technical understanding of software landscapes ranging from Mainframe, Open Systems, Relational Database, Networking, Security, with a high understanding of the software development lifecycle (SDLC).
  • Demonstrated technical leadership and guidance related to your field(s) of expertise to one or more Agile teams.
  • Proven ability to define the long-term vision for one or more technical domains, and help leading the technical execution towards that vision.
  • Proven ability to convincingly communicate product vision, solutions, and benefits to customers and stakeholders, and champion the needs of customers and stakeholders throughout the development process.
  • Proven ability to lead feature definition, planning, and implementation efforts with clarity and conviction.
  • Demonstrated experience coordinating with cross-functional teams during the entire lifecycle of product development.
Work Setting

Works in an office setting, remaining continuously in a stationary position for long periods of time while working at a desk, on a computer, or with other standard office equipment, or while in meetings.

Performs frequent keyboarding work requiring the ability to make repetitive motions of the wrists, hands, and/or fingers.

Educational Requirements

Bachelor's degree or commensurate selection criteria experience.

Computer Skills and Knowledge of Hardware & Software Required
  • Scrum Master experience: 5 years.
  • Experience with an Agile management tool, such as Microsoft Team Foundation Server.
  • Proven skills in documentation and spreadsheet applications.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Certifications & Licenses (i.e., Series 6 & 63, CPA, etc.):
  • Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM) or Professional Scrum Master II (PSM II).
  • Certified in at least one Scaled Framework.
Position Demands

Extended hours may be required during peak workloads or special projects.

Handle problems, calls, etc., off-hours as required either remotely or by returning to work.
