Position Overview:
The Educational Support Specialist at Tommy Nobis Center plays a crucial role in an innovative program dedicated to providing enhanced vocational education, training, and employment opportunities for young adults with disabilities transitioning from high school to the workforce. This position involves assisting the Academy Instructor in delivering a curriculum tailored to Life Skills aimed at fostering work independence, social skills for success, and vocational skills, along with the integration of community-based work experiences.
This is a full-time role focused on delivering year-round services.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the implementation of services for participants throughout their time in the Academy.
- Assist in classroom instruction using a vocational skills curriculum that includes life skills, social skills, career exploration, job readiness, and interview techniques for young adults transitioning into the workforce.
- Facilitate daily instructional reviews.
- Oversee participants during breaks, lunches, and outings to ensure effective classroom management.
- Collaborate with the Academy Instructor and Employment Specialists to prepare participants for achieving their employment objectives.
- Assist Employment Specialists in coordinating internship opportunities at community work sites.
- Prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for participants as necessary.
- Monitor and collect performance metrics and outcomes.
- Support case management and individualized career planning for students, including documentation and data management.
- Contribute to the delivery of career readiness and educational workshops.
- Help organize and facilitate group activities for students.
- Identify local learning opportunities for students.
Qualifications:
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's Degree in special education, rehabilitation, sociology, behavioral sciences, business administration, or a related field, or currently pursuing a degree.
- Genuine interest in vocational rehabilitation and teaching career/work readiness skills to individuals with disabilities.
