Job Overview

This position at the Novartis Group Companies will play a pivotal role in shaping the narrative of our Research & Development pipeline. As Chief Communications Strategist for R&D Portfolio and Engagement, you will be responsible for developing and executing effective internal and external communications strategies across various areas, including R&D pipeline communications, media engagement, and issues management.

About the Role

This is a hybrid position that requires 10% travel, primarily within the United States and internationally. You will be based at our Cambridge, MA site and must have the ability to relocate if necessary. The salary range for this position is $130,400 - $195,600 per year, reflecting your experience level and skills. Your total compensation package may include additional benefits such as a sign-on bonus, restricted stock units, discretionary awards, medical coverage, and paid time off.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop innovative communications strategies to effectively convey our R&D pipeline story, focusing on what sets us apart.
  • Manage pipeline news flow by designing and executing internal and external communications plans for key milestones.
  • Implement regular touchpoints with relevant team members and track data releases to plan for upcoming events.
  • Support proactive and reactive media engagement activities related to the R&D pipeline, contributing to our narrative and storytelling efforts.
  • Anticipate potential issues, develop strategic communications to manage risk, and support issues management efforts for R&D specific topics.
  • Collaborate with Business Development and Financial Communications colleagues to announce and position Novartis collaborations, deals, and acquisitions internally and externally.
  • Aid in developing materials and messaging for quarterly reporting activities and Investor Relations events.
  • Maintain a keen understanding of the external environment and key stakeholder needs.
  • Drive innovative approaches to pipeline news flow management and other focus areas by tracking best practices within and beyond our industry.

Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree required; degree subject area in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, or a related field preferred.
  • 8+ years of experience in communications roles with a focus on R&D, media, pipeline communications, or related fields.
  • Proven track record of developing and implementing successful communication strategies.
  • Strong industry and R&D understanding, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and drive results under tight deadlines.
  • Excellent analytical skills to interpret data and drive decision-making.
  • Exceptional leadership, communication, business partnering, and stakeholder management skills.
