Inspector Packer

Job Summary:

Thermo Fisher Scientific is seeking a skilled Inspector Packer to join our team in Asheville, NC. As a key member of our Laboratory Products Division, you will be responsible for performing a wide variety of product assembly operations on product components, assemblies, or sub-assemblies to make essential laboratory equipment and medical devices.

Key Responsibilities:

• Select appropriate components to align and assemble them in proper sequence by drilling holes, adding rivets, screws, bolts, braces, tape, cement, or solder to meet specifications.
• Read standard operating procedures and electrical wiring diagrams to accomplish accurate assembly.
• Inspect parts during sub-assembly and at key points to ensure the unit meets specified quality standards prior to moving the unit to the next workstation.
• Use a wide range of hand tools, including drill, rivet gun, drill press, and SAP system to enter product-related data into the computer system and track component serial numbers, scan bar codes, production rates, physical location, and more.
• Order and retrieve supplies/materials such as cardboard, bags, and warehouse items using paper and SAP documents.
• Troubleshoot work-related problems by applying knowledge and experience toward resolution and taking appropriate steps for assistance.
• Test assembled units; clean and pack final product.
• Cross-train and flex to other cells are crucial to the success of the team.

Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of one year of proven experience in manufacturing, construction maintenance, or industrial setting.
• Previous experience with multiple component manufacturing production.
• Experience in lean manufacturing, 5S, and continuous improvement a plus.
• Ability to read and differentiate part numbers, labels, and work instructions.
• Standing, bending, reaching, and handling bulky parts is common to the job. Frequently lifts up to 35 pounds.
• Computer and keyboarding experience.
