Position Overview

CannabizTeam is seeking a highly skilled Director of Cultivation to manage all facets of cannabis cultivation for our multi-state operations. This pivotal role encompasses a wide range of agronomic responsibilities, including horticultural science, integrated pest management, pesticide application, and the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the primary liaison between the cultivation department and senior leadership.
  • Oversee the operational management and business functions of the cultivation department within the designated facility.
  • Contribute to the formulation of the overall agronomic and operational strategy, creating a roadmap aimed at maximizing yields, enhancing ROI, and implementing innovative farming techniques.
  • Direct the establishment and execution of SOPs, methods, and policies to enhance departmental performance and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Supervise managers in the planning and execution of the cultivation schedule from clone to harvest.
  • Assist facility leadership in crafting and implementing the production schedule.
  • Lead the design and execution of experimental trials to meet key organizational objectives, documenting all procedures, results, and conclusions.
  • Monitor the impact of soil, water, nutrients, pests, and climate on crop yield and quality.
  • Collaborate with laboratories to analyze soil and tissue samples, providing recommendations for fertility programs based on nutrient needs.
  • Work alongside management to assess crop performance annually, suggesting improvements and updating best practices.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and innovations that could benefit the organization, evaluating the feasibility of new scientific principles and products.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with supervisors and team leads to facilitate information sharing and collaborative problem-solving.
  • Set and manage flower inventory levels in accordance with the cultivation schedule and sales forecasts.
  • Ensure adherence to quality, safety, GMPs, and ISO standards.
  • Align facility decisions and project plans with the company’s strategic business objectives.
  • Partner with data analytics to gather growth and environmental data for future cultivation techniques.
  • Employ Lean Manufacturing principles, including Six Sigma, to identify and implement processes that enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
  • Develop strategies to reduce costs related to labor, materials, and capital investments by improving workflow and operational effectiveness.
  • Utilize KPIs to monitor and optimize operational performance.
  • Foster a workplace culture that embodies the company’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Perform additional duties as required.
  • Possess a deep understanding of controlled environments, soil science, and pest management.
  • Act as a core team member and subject matter expert in cross-functional initiatives aimed at improving outcomes.
  • Participate actively in team meetings.
  • Engage with industry and educational institutions to initiate research projects and address farm-specific challenges.
  • Manage vendor relationships and seek assistance when necessary.

Qualifications:

  • Master's Degree in Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field with a minimum of 5 years of direct experience, or a Bachelor's degree with at least 10 years of relevant experience.
  • Possession of a valid California pesticide applicator license.
  • Experience with vertical racking systems, soil data monitoring systems, and LED lighting in cultivation.
  • Knowledge of growing methodologies, including micronutrients, beneficial bacteria, mycorrhizae, nutrient application, pH, and soil management.
  • Ability to identify plant diseases, insects, and fungi, along with knowledge of treatment options.
