Overview:
Under supervision, the Water System Technician engages in skilled and specialized tasks related to the construction, upkeep, repair, and enhancement of municipal facilities and equipment across various Public Works Divisions. This role requires providing technical guidance on specialized plumbing, mechanical, carpentry, or welding issues while demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of all relevant policies, procedures, and operational methods associated with the assigned responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities:
The Water System Technician operates at a journey level, undertaking technical responsibilities associated with the construction, repair, and maintenance of municipal facilities, infrastructure, and equipment across diverse trades, including building maintenance and welding. This position is expected to function with a significant degree of autonomy and may involve supervising projects and guiding less experienced personnel.
Minimum Qualifications:
- A high school diploma or equivalent.
- At least two (2) years of full-time experience in one or more building trades, or five (5) years of full-time experience in semi-skilled building trades work.
- Possession of a valid Class C California driver's license or an equivalent from another state.
- Possession of a Grade II or higher Water Distribution Operator Certification from the State of California, or an equivalent certification from another state or governmental entity that is transferable.
Additional Information:
Only applicants meeting the qualification standards for this position by the application filing deadline will be permitted to participate in the examination process. The examination may consist of the following components:
- Application Package Review: Only the most qualified applicants, based on the information provided in the application, will be invited to participate in the examination processes.
- Oral Exam: 100% weight value. Candidates must achieve a score of 70% or higher to be considered for the eligibility list.
The final selection and appointment will be made by the City Manager, based on the recommendation of the department head from the established eligibility list.
Applicants may qualify for Veteran's Preference Points and should attach relevant documentation to their employment application for consideration of this preference. Special examination accommodations due to a disability can be arranged by contacting the Human Resources Department prior to any scheduled examination.
