Position Summary:

Under moderate supervision, the Safety and Security Specialist is responsible for ensuring a secure environment for all staff, patients, physicians, and visitors. This role involves safeguarding individuals and property by preventing incidents such as theft, assault, and vandalism through the enforcement of established policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education and Experience: Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent. Applicants should be at least 21 years old, with a preference for those who have one year of experience in Healthcare Security.

Conditions of Employment: New hires will undergo a probationary period of six months. Upon successful completion of performance evaluations, employees will transition to regular status. Unsatisfactory evaluations may result in termination.

Skills and Abilities:

Essential skills include:

  • Maintaining confidentiality and respecting the rights of patients.
  • Effective verbal and written communication with patients, healthcare professionals, and the public.
  • Basic mathematical skills for performing necessary calculations.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently with minimal supervision.
Certifications:

All employees must complete annual training in Non-violence Crisis Intervention as designated by the Security Manager or their designee. A valid driver's license and proof of insurance are preferred.

Physical Requirements:

This position requires working in various hospital settings, which may involve exposure to challenging situations, fluctuating temperatures, and high noise levels. Responsibilities include:

  • Walking and standing for approximately 70% of the time.
  • Sitting for about 30% of the time.
  • Handling patients weighing over 100 lbs and managing equipment and supplies weighing up to 100 lbs.

Employees must demonstrate visual acuity and manual dexterity to operate necessary tools and equipment. There is a potential risk of exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials, necessitating adherence to safety protocols.
