Job Summary:

The Phlebotomy Specialist is responsible for collecting patient specimens for diagnostic testing in a professional medical environment. This role functions as part of a dynamic team with a workload that ranges from fast-paced hospital settings to high/low volume clinics.

Key Responsibilities:

Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture, fingerstick, heelstick) according to established procedures.
Identifies patients using two patient identifiers and labels specimens and specimen containers accurately.
Determines the correct priority for STAT, Routine, ASAP, etc. specimen collections.
Collects and receives specimens into the laboratory utilizing computer protocols, including processing, preparation, centrifugation, aliquot, and routing of specimens to include reference lab.
Ensures the timely transport and processing of all patient specimens for testing.
Files patients' lab reports, requisitions charges for the business office, and sends reports to outside hospitals and clinics.
Posts charges and reconciles invoices, investigates complex bills, and researches and resolves any questionable patient orders.
Enters patient demographic data accurately and maintains required lab records and logs, collects statistics for reports, and performs other clerical duties as directed by manager.

Requirements:

Certified Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor: High School Diploma or equivalent and a certification from one of the following: RPT, AMT PBT, ASCP, AMT, NCCT, NAPT, NHA, NPA, ACA, or ASPT.
Non-Certified Phlebotomist/Specimen Processor: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Preferred Qualifications:

Six (6) months of laboratory experience.

Physical Requirements:

Interact with patients, patients' family, patient care providers, and others requiring the employee to verbally communicate information and understand spoken information.
Operate computers and complex and delicate lab equipment with precision and accuracy, requiring the ability to move fingers and hands.
See and read lab equipment, labels, monitors, and documents. Walk while transporting phlebotomy equipment cart. Remain standing for long periods of time to perform work. Adjust body, including bending, to perform phlebotomy work.

Work Environment:

This role is located at Good Samaritan Hospital in Lafayette, Colorado, and requires the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a high volume of patients and specimens.
