The College is situated on a spacious campus in southwest Roanoke, serving a wide region that includes several counties. Established in 1966, Virginia Western has grown significantly, currently enrolling over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 in workforce development programs.
Responsibilities:
As an educator, you will be responsible for:
- Instructing students in both classroom and practical lab environments to ensure they acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Certified Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) examination.
- Delivering the established curriculum effectively and monitoring student progress.
- Facilitating knowledge transfer to support certification preparation and addressing any technical issues that arise in the classroom.
- Tracking equipment usage and maintaining inventory.
- Assessing student performance for mastery of content and skills, while keeping accurate records of attendance and grades in accordance with institutional policies.
- Contributing to curriculum development and content enhancement as needed.
Qualifications:
Ideal candidates should possess:
- A minimum of one year of experience in a medical administrative role, with a background as a medical assistant or front office staff.
- Expertise in the skills and knowledge required to successfully pass the CMAA exam.
- A thorough understanding of local healthcare facilities and systems.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines.
- An associate's degree in a related healthcare field.
All applicants must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, and the ability to engage with students from diverse backgrounds effectively.
Additional Considerations:
A bachelor's degree in a related healthcare field and experience in teaching adult learners will be advantageous. Familiarity with learning management systems, such as Canvas, is also beneficial.
