About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Carbon Portfolio Manager to join our Global Internal Sustainability Team at Boston Consulting Group. As a key member of our industry-leading carbon removal team, you will play a critical role in developing and enhancing our carbon portfolio, focusing on removal solutions ranging from nature-based to engineered durable removals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and Enhance Carbon Portfolio Strategy: Support the development and implementation of the overall strategy framework for building and enhancing BCG's carbon portfolio of removal solutions.
  • Monitor Carbon Market Evolutions: Closely monitor carbon market evolutions (players, standards, policies, market conditions e.g. supply and prices) and translate them into implications and recommendations for BCG's carbon portfolio strategy and roadmap.
  • Evolve Carbon Portfolio Sourcing Process: Support the evolution of BCG's carbon portfolio sourcing process.
  • Identify and Structure Partnerships: Identify, prioritize, evaluate, negotiate, and structure partnerships and deals to source avoidance and removal solutions in line with BCG's net-zero goals and objectives.
  • Due Diligence and Technical Expertise: Undertake due diligence of a variety of technologies by engaging with relevant partners and internal technical experts.
  • Communicate Carbon Portfolio Strategy: Support the communication of the carbon portfolio strategy internally and externally.
  • Contribute to Net-Zero Strategy: Contribute to overall net-zero strategy enhancement and continuous improvement, including planning and budgeting processes from the carbon portfolio perspective.
  • Identify Strategic Partnerships: In partnership with relevant internal stakeholders, identify and cultivate opportunities for leveraging portfolio partnership into broader strategic partnerships.
  • Knowledge-Sharing and Relationship-Building: Contribute to knowledge-sharing activities and expand skills and knowledge linked to the topics, and develop and build strong working relationships with peers, suppliers, and other members of the VCM ecosystem.
Requirements
  • Strong Business Skills: Applies strong business skills and strong business judgement - with the ability to structure and negotiate commercially sound deals.
  • Technical Expertise: Applies technical expertise to methodically assess a variety of carbon project technologies.
  • Corporate Climate Action: Good understanding of corporate climate action including mitigation actions and frameworks such as net-zero.
  • Problem-Solving and Analytical Skills: Problem-solving, analytical skills, and decision-making.
  • Strategy Development and Financial Planning: Strategy development, financial, and planning skills.
  • Managing Uncertainty and Dynamic Situations: Managing uncertainty and dynamic situations.
  • Organizational and Communication Skills: Organized and able to track and manage multiple, competing priorities, and communication, interpersonal, and teaming skills.
  • Complex Matrix Structured Organization: Experience working successfully within a complex matrix structured organization.
Qualifications
  • University Degree: University degree in Environmental management, Engineering, Business, or other relevant disciplines.
  • Relevant Work Experience: Minimum of 4+ years of relevant work experience in climate finance / voluntary carbon markets/the carbon credit value chain.
  • Carbon Programs and Technologies: Deep knowledge and expertise in carbon programs and/or carbon removal technologies (e.g. direct air capture) including experience of evaluating quality, feasibility of solutions, and their potential at scale to mitigate climate change.
