Position Summary

The DevOps/Systems Engineer plays a crucial role in constructing, sustaining, and overseeing a virtual infrastructure, leveraging automation to optimize these processes. The individual will prioritize security, reliability, thorough documentation, and proper backup protocols. A successful candidate will emphasize automation to minimize repetitive manual tasks.

Technical Environment

  • Applications developed in Ruby on Rails and Node.js, utilizing PostgreSQL and MongoDB for data storage, alongside Redis, Memcached, Elasticsearch, and WebSockets.
  • CI/CD framework utilizing Spinnaker and Jenkins.
  • Infrastructure as Code practices employing Terraform and Ansible.
  • Multi-cloud environments including AWS and Google Cloud.

Key Responsibilities

  • Work collaboratively with software engineers to enhance their development experience.
  • Implement application-level modifications to introduce new tools and adapt to evolving infrastructure.
  • Automate workflows and processes to alleviate workload and expedite product delivery.
  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and training materials for departmental use.
  • Coordinate with software engineers to ensure application updates align with infrastructure requirements, making adjustments as necessary.
  • Monitor virtual infrastructure and participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to address alerts.

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in infrastructure and operations, including roles such as SRE, systems engineering, or system administration.
  • Proven coding skills or experience in software engineering.
  • Experience with server automation tools, particularly Ansible.
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms, specifically AWS and/or Google Cloud.
  • Experience in creating and managing CI/CD pipelines and services.
  • Proficient with SQL databases, particularly PostgreSQL.
  • Able to navigate and understand unfamiliar codebases.
  • Comfortable in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
  • Effective communicator who seeks support proactively.
  • Demonstrates ownership of tasks and drives them to completion.

Preferred Skills (not mandatory)

  • Knowledge of the Ruby on Rails technology stack.
  • Experience in technical writing.

Educational Background

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical discipline.
