Position Overview:

The Commercial Estimator plays a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and reliability of estimates for new construction and re-roofing projects within our commercial roofing division. This position involves leading the interpretation of architectural plans and facilitating effective communication with suppliers to manage the process from bid requests to finalized agreements and project implementation.

Your expertise and dedication will be key to our success in the roofing sector.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with management to develop and document a detailed "target project profile" that will guide our future projects.
  • Work in conjunction with management, the Production team, and suppliers to improve our current pricing structure, integrating relevant material and labor line items into our estimating templates for enhanced efficiency.
  • Utilize the pricing structure to create and maintain estimating templates tailored for various commercial roofing systems and applications.
  • Coordinate with the sales team to effectively implement and utilize the aforementioned estimating templates.

  • Proactively identify commercial bidding opportunities that align with the established "target project profile."
  • Actively pursue additional bidding opportunities through engagement with general contractors, manufacturers, municipalities, and online bidding platforms.
  • Utilize, refine, and maintain estimating templates to produce competitive and profitable bids.
  • Encourage collaboration among all departments and stakeholders to foster positive internal relationships.
  • Build and maintain relationships with general contractors and municipalities.
  • Act as a technical resource and information conduit, collaborating with both sales and production teams to facilitate project reviews, conduct inspections, and ensure effective communication.

Required Skills:

  • Ability to interpret plans, drawings, and specifications.
  • Exceptional organizational and self-motivational skills, suitable for independent work.
  • Capability to manage multiple tasks and priorities, with adaptability in dynamic environments.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Outlook, Teams, Word, and Excel.
  • Experience with digital takeoff and estimating software (e.g., Stack, Edge, PlanSwift, or equivalents).
  • Comprehensive understanding of commercial roofing products, components, systems, and assemblies.
  • Must successfully pass pre-employment background screening and drug testing, and provide documentation to satisfy federal Form I-9 requirements upon hire.

Education and Experience:

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent; higher education is advantageous.
  • 3-5 years of experience in interpreting plans/specifications, including reference documents.
  • 3-5 years of experience in researching manufacturer specifications and building code requirements.
  • 3-5 years of experience in commercial roofing and/or construction estimating.
  • Proficiency in CAD is a plus.
