Job Title: Per Diem Psychiatrist

Join the City of New York's Customized Assistance Services (CAS) team as a Per Diem Psychiatrist in the Visiting Psychiatric Services Unit. As a key member of our team, you will provide comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and services to clients in need.

Job Summary:

The Per Diem Psychiatrist will work under the supervision of the Medical Director, performing psychiatric evaluations of clients at home, at HRA sites, or at other designated locations. The successful candidate will be responsible for coordinating daily activities with the Clinical Intake Unit, reviewing relevant clinical information, and preparing detailed mental health reports.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive psychiatric evaluations of clients as per OHMHS policies and procedures.
  • Prepare detailed mental health reports as per OHMHS policies and procedures.
  • Formulate service and treatment recommendations to assist the referring agency in planning for the client's biopsychosocial needs.
  • Arrange for the involuntary transport to the hospital of individuals who are dangerous to themselves and/or others in coordination with police, Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and hospital personnel.
  • Refer appropriate cases to HRA's Office of Legal Affairs for guardianship, Guardian-Ad Litem, STIPSO, and other legal interventions.
  • Execute Orders to Gain Access (OGA) in coordination with the Police Department and Adult Protective Services.
  • Review and sign legal affirmations prepared by the Office of Legal Affairs.
  • Testify in court proceedings for guardianship and other legal interventions.
  • Consult with the Medical Director regarding utilization of MHL Section 9.
Qualifications:
  • Possession of a valid license to practice medicine in the State of New York.
  • Completion of three years of approved residency training in psychiatry.
