Financial Counselor Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Financial Counselor to join our team at Methodist Hospital. As a Financial Counselor, you will play a critical role in ensuring that patients receive accurate and timely financial information, and that their financial needs are met.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Review the Financial Clearance Worklist daily and visit in-house patients to collect estimated patient liability amounts.
  • Explain all financial information and responsibilities to patients, and work closely with outside agencies to ensure patients' financial coverage.
  • Follow AIDET guidelines in all interactions with patients and demonstrate excellent customer service.
  • Provide estimates to patients and/or physicians as requested, and generate insurance verification and precertification reports daily.
  • Utilize eligibility systems, online websites, or phone calls to determine insurance benefits and precertification requirements.
  • Assist patients with payment arrangements and coordinate with the Medicaid Eligibility Staff to assist patients with financial applications.
  • Contact patient employers, if necessary, for verification of employment, premium status, and babies being added to policies.
  • Escalate any concerns as needed to the Patient Access Manager/Supervisor.
  • Enter pertinent insurance information into the HIS system (i.e., Meditech) and enter appropriate notes for all patient encounters.
Requirements:
  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • 1 year of related experience required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
