About the Role

The Federal Judicial Center is seeking a highly qualified Deputy Director to join its Education Division. As a key member of the division, you will play a critical role in overseeing the development and implementation of education programs for federal judges and court staff.

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in education, management, and leadership, with a proven track record of designing and delivering effective educational programs. You will be responsible for working closely with the Division Director to develop and implement the division's annual education plan, as well as overseeing the administrative team and ensuring the effective management of the division's budget.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee the development and implementation of education programs for federal judges and court staff
  • Work closely with the Division Director to develop and implement the division's annual education plan
  • Manage the administrative team and ensure the effective management of the division's budget
  • Collaborate with other Center staff to ensure the effective delivery of education programs
  • Stay up-to-date with trends and best practices in education and training
Requirements
  • Advanced degree in education, a social science, business administration, or law
  • 5 years of supervisory experience in a professional institution or office, preferably in the fields of judicial and court education, continuing legal education, or other professional education
  • 3 years of experience designing and delivering educational programs for adults
  • Excellent skills managing people, projects, and resources
  • Ability to work independently while respecting the role of the Division Director
  • Strong writing and public speaking skills
  • Superior organization and communication skills
  • Ability to work cooperatively, collaboratively, and respectfully with people inside and outside the organization to meet the Center's mission
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with budget uncertainty
  • Experience developing, mentoring, and coaching new and seasoned managers, faculty, and/or staff
  • Familiarity with federal procurement and personnel rules and procedures
  • Experience managing on-site and remote employees
  • Experience enhancing and streamlining processes, services, and programs
  • Comfort using data collection and presentation software

This is a full-time position, and the selected candidate will be required to work at the official duty station in Washington, D.C. or at a temporary duty station. The Center does not pay for relocation expenses, but employees receive reimbursement for all official business travel.

This position does not carry the tenure rights of positions in the competitive civil service.
