Job Summary

The Audiologist is responsible for providing high-quality hearing health care services to exceed customer expectations and support the efficiency and effectiveness of medical office operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Administer comprehensive hearing and balance evaluations, tests, or examinations to patients to collect information on type and degree of impairment, using specialized instruments and equipment.
  • Manage the audiology function/department on a day-to-day basis, ensuring adherence to established policies, procedures, work methods, and standards of practice.
  • Identify, assess, diagnose, manage, and interpret test results related to disorders of human hearing, balance, and other neural systems.
  • Perform otoscopic examination and external ear canal management for the removal of cerumen in order to evaluate hearing or balance, make ear impressions, fit hearing protection or prosthetic devices, and monitor the continuous use of hearing aids.
  • Conduct and interpret behavioral, electroacoustic, or electrophysiological methods used to assess hearing, balance, and neural system function.
  • Measure and interpret sensory and motor-evoked potentials, electromyography, and other electrodiagnostic tests for purposes of neurophysiological intraoperative monitoring and cranial nerve assessment.
  • Perform all services and duties in a manner consistent with SFENTA's policies, procedures, and quality standards.
  • Supervise professional and technical personnel who provide support functions to the practice of audiology.
  • Oversee the completion and quality of work assigned to Audiology Assistants and Audiology Technicians.
  • Manage employee performance through coaching, appraising, and motivating.
  • Set staff performance goals and monitor progress.
  • Delegate the necessary authority and control or resources for employees to accomplish the objectives for which they are held accountable.
  • Organize the relationship between different functions within the department so that resources are used efficiently.
  • Complete documentation necessary to assure compliance with SFENTA policy, regulatory compliance, and to maintain accuracy of patient medical records.
  • Oversee activities to support effective marketing initiatives to increase awareness of available technology by educating patients, staff, and referring physicians, which will result in increased sales at the care center level.
  • Report patient test results to originating referral source or appropriate staff member for tracking and documentation.
  • Maintain patient records at all stages, including initial evaluation and discharge.
  • Monitor patients' progress and discharge them from treatment when goals have been attained.
  • Assist with retrieval of patient information from electronic data systems or other sources as needed.
  • On an ongoing basis, review SFENTA clinical procedures, processes, and systems and recommend improvements as necessary.
  • Work with multi-disciplinary teams to assess and rehabilitate recipients of implanted hearing devices.
  • Conduct or direct research on hearing or speech topics and report findings to help in the development of procedures, technology, or marketing.
  • Recommend assistive devices according to patients' needs or nature of impairments.
  • Develop and supervise hearing screening programs.
  • Instruct patients, or employers, in how to avoid behavior patterns that lead to miscommunication.
  • Participate in conferences or training to update or share knowledge of new hearing or speech disorder treatment methods or technologies.
  • Measure noise levels in workplaces and conduct hearing protection programs.
Requirements

Masters or Doctoral Degree in Audiology

At least two years of experience in a clinical setting
