Position Overview

Salary: Commensurate with Education and Relevant Experience

Dedicated to enhancing family structures and fostering community growth.

The Title I Reading Teacher plays a crucial role in advancing the literacy skills of students in grades 1-2 who are struggling, while also striving to achieve high reading proficiency for all learners.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate standardized assessment results to determine the reading requirements of students.
  • Design and implement Reading/ELA lesson plans tailored to meet the identified needs of students and complement classroom teaching.
  • Conduct small-group sessions focusing on lessons that cater to the specific reading challenges of students.
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-teach reading lessons as needed.
  • Support the Head of School in managing inventory, scheduling, and administering reading assessments.
  • Engage with classroom and/or reading instructors to strategize and discuss student progress.
  • Participate in Response to Intervention meetings for relevant grade levels.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Preferred: Master's Degree in Reading or a related field.
  • Reading certification is mandatory; SEI endorsement is required or must be obtained within the first year.
  • Preferred: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Strong dedication to educational reform, particularly in promoting equity for low-income and linguistically diverse students.
  • Excellent communication skills with both adults and children.
  • Ability to function effectively as a collaborative team member.
  • Bilingual proficiency in Spanish and English is preferred.
  • Commitment to the mission and objectives of Lawrence Family Development Charter School.
  • Experience in creating programs to address the needs of students with reading difficulties.
  • Preferred: Experience in developing initiatives for urban students from Hispanic backgrounds.
